What kind of world are we leaving behind?
This urgent question sits at the heart of Legacy — a powerful new piece of protest theatre premiering in Kent this autumn and touring community venues, schools, and public spaces through the winter. Written in the spirit of civic responsibility and political imagination, Legacy is not just a play. It’s a rallying cry.

Culture has a critical role in helping us imagine a better tomorrow. Legacy does exactly that.

Theatre With a Purpose

Set in the now, Legacy listens to three people who are debating the consequences of political decisions made by previous generations and what should be done to rectify the state of this troubled world — all are brought to life through bold storytelling, poetic monologues, fiery debate, music and the moving image.

Although Legacy isn’t just about what’s broken. It’s about action. 

It asks: how do we reclaim the future before it’s too late?

Reaching the Next Generation

This is a play that tours where people are — not just theatres, but schools, pubs, and community spaces. Each performance is followed by a discussion or workshop, allowing audiences (particularly young people) to respond creatively and politically.

The production comes with a full Schools Pack, linking themes of the play to PSHE, English, Drama, and Citizenship curricula. Students are encouraged to write their own protest monologues, debate the issues, and even join in campaigning efforts on local issues.

A Platform for Youth Voices

Legacy gives space to the generation most affected by today’s political choices but least represented in those decisions. The script was informed by real conversations with young people in Kent, and its touring model is built to be accessible, relevant, and affordable.

In the words of the playwright:
“This isn’t just about theatre. It’s about listening — really listening — to the people who will live with the consequences of our inaction.”

At a time when public discourse is fractured and trust in those in power can feel thin on the ground, Legacy reminds us that theatre — like politics — can still be a force for good.

Where to Catch the Play

Legacy will be performed at venues across Faversham, Canterbury, Whitstable, and Sittingbourne this autumn, including secondary schools and pop-up pub performances. A full schedule will be available soon via The Arden Theatre’s website.
