Progressive Alliances 2019 – discuss!

Thursday, 07 November 2019

Climate inaction. Brexit chaos. Endless austerity. The hostile environment. That’s where we are after almost a decade of Conservative-led governments.

We now have a chance to elect a progressive government, but there are three things we’ll need to defeat to make that happen:

  1. The regressive alliance of the Tories and the Brexit Party
  2. The first-past-the-post voting system
  3. Tribal tendencies within all of the progressive parties.

Through building progressive alliances, we can overcome all of these. Compass initiated the Progressive Alliance two years ago. Then, it was successful in denying the Tories a majority, but it stopped short of winning us a progressive majority.

The stakes are even higher now. We must work together for a progressive government.

That’s why we’re publishing our Guide to Progressive Alliances

Cover page of guide

It’s essential reading for anyone who wants to help make cross-party collaboration happen in the campaign. In just a few pages, the guide walks you through the basic why and how of progressive alliances – all based on what we’ve learnt from the 2017 Progressive Alliance.

If you’ve got specific questions or requests that go beyond the scope and detail of the guide, we’d love to hear from you – please get in touch and we’ll try to help where we can!

It’s thanks to Compass members that we can do this work. It would mean a lot to us if you could join us too – the more of us there are the more we can get done! Please see here for more info about becoming a member of Compass.
