Climate inaction. Brexit chaos. Endless austerity. The hostile environment. That’s where we are after almost a decade of Conservative-led governments.
We now have a chance to elect a progressive government, but there are three things we’ll need to defeat to make that happen:
- The regressive alliance of the Tories and the Brexit Party
- The first-past-the-post voting system
- Tribal tendencies within all of the progressive parties.
Through building progressive alliances, we can overcome all of these. Compass initiated the Progressive Alliance two years ago. Then, it was successful in denying the Tories a majority, but it stopped short of winning us a progressive majority.
The stakes are even higher now. We must work together for a progressive government.

It’s essential reading for anyone who wants to help make cross-party collaboration happen in the campaign. In just a few pages, the guide walks you through the basic why and how of progressive alliances – all based on what we’ve learnt from the 2017 Progressive Alliance.
