The term ‘progressive’ is used extensively by those of us not on the right of the political spectrum – Compass very much included. But there is often much debate over what ‘progressive’ actually means and what ‘progressivism’ actually is.

This new paper, authored by former Director Policy at Number 10 and Professor at UCL, Geoff Mulgan, aims to answer these questions. By situating the modern form of progressivism in the wider, historic progressive tradition, as well as defining key policy areas progressives could coalesce around, the paper is a valuable resource for all of us trying to bring about the Good Society.
