BIG EDUCATION: The launch of the Compass Inquiry into a New System of Education

Committee Room 11, House of Commons

For 18 months Compass, working with the NUT and a whole host of stakeholders have been examining the purpose and practice of education for 21st century. Please join us to discuss and debate the final report Big Education: learning for 21st century.

The report sets out a new direction for education in England and Wales but is built on detailed knowledge and input from experts and practitioners the world over. The report is an optimistic call for an education system that is built around human needs and human capabilities. It sets out some of the transformative steps that the next government should take; notably around the democratic local area, new forms of evaluation, inspection, leadership and professionalism – as well as a commitment to life long learning.

The report is one of the most visionary and detail rich pieces of work ever on the future of education.

Chair: Dame Jane Roberts

Speakers: Professor Ken Spours (on the report as a whole), Judith Edwards (on life long learning)

Respondents: Kevin Courtney – Deputy General Secretary NUT, David Blunkett MP, Lisa Nandy MP
