As we move through the remaining days and weeks of Tony Blair’s leadership, we shall have to wait to see if, once leader, the new agenda of Gordon Brown will embrace a more progressive future. After all, Brown has frequently spoken of his desire to build a ‘progressive consensus’. Failure to do so will have lasting consequences for Labour, as a party and as a Government and for the people of Britain.
