We held a very enjoyable and interesting post-meeting gathering at the Victoria Arms in Marston on 28th April. |

This was the first of our planned series of meetings rotating around Oxfordshire. We had a wide-ranging discussion, covering the threat of Reform as the global far-right’s ‘UK trojan horse’, whether Labour can be salvaged, & the fate of PR. Ideas were also floated on practical actions, e.g. stalls to raise public awareness on themes like counteracting the Reform media and social media narrative, the UK’s fragile progressive majority & building this majority to protect our democracy. There was also interest in creating wider community discussion groups, the importance of independent journalism, citizens assemblies and how to use them to influence policy change locally and nationally. Our next meeting will be in Abingdon on 26th June (evening). We’ll be developing the themes above, with particular reference to Reform’s increase in support in Oxfordshire at the local elections. The county council shifted from NOC to a Lib Dem majority but Reform came 2nd or 3rd in most wards, sometimes by small margins. These results provide food for thought. We’d love to see you on the 26th June. |
