Calderdale Compass launch

Hebden Bridge Town Hall, Hebden Bridge, HX7 7 BY

Compass is a home for people, political parties and other organisations to work together to create a fairer society based on equality, sustainability and democracy, and to campaign together to achieve these aims.
A new Compass group is starting up in Calderdale, which we hope will lead to the formation of many more in West Yorkshire and beyond. We believe that democratic reform will be an essential part of creating long term, progressive change!

100 years after some women won the right to vote, we are still a long way from equal representaion in Parliament, and the UK lags far behind other countries which have proportional voting systems. Our first past the post system was designed centuries ago, and we believe reform to this system will play a crucial role in gaining equal representation of women and minority groups.

We invite you to our launch in Hebden Bridge to find out more about Compass and democratic reform.

Speakers include:

– Lisa Nandy MP

– Klina Jordan, Co-founder of Make Votes Matter

– Frances Foley, National Campaigns Coordinator, Compass

Doors will open at 1.30pm with an opportunity to network with other supporters, ask questions and purchase drinks from the cafe which will be open until 3pm. Talks will begin at 2pm.

There is no charge for the event, all are welcome including children and the venue is fully accessible.
