Compass is the pressure group for a good society – one that is more equal, democratic and sustainable.
We’re interested in exploring big questions. How are we going to fix the mess we’re in and build a good society? From climate change and growing inequality, to a broken and undemocratic electoral system – things need to change. At Compass, we know politics needs to change. We now know that no one political party, organisation, individual or group can make real systemic change. We need to work together strategically and in solidarity with each other if we’re going to win on the big issues.
That means we experiment; with ideas, events and campaigns. There’s no blueprint but a good Compass intervention will always start by asking how do we move towards a good society? It asks the deep, strategic questions, collectively develops ideas and thinking, and brings together a diverse range of people, from grassroots groups to political parties, to frame the terms of the debate, and influence decisions and actions. For instance, our campaign on pay inequality shifted the conversation around high pay and forced the issue onto the mainstream political agenda.
Working with Compass is fast-paced, energetic and fun; it’s more than just a job to us. You’ll work directly with the National Organiser and the Campaigns and Ideas Organiser, as well as a host of activists and volunteers.
If you love working with data (membership), general office admin and enjoy supporting a busy office team with logistics then this might be the job for you. We’re a small, busy team and care a lot about supporting each other, so we’re looking for someone happy to muck and help make sure we get things done.
Responsibilities
To support a small, busy office team with administration and office tasks to ensure the organisation runs smoothly. One of the main tasks will be to take responsibility for membership administration, including transitioning to NationBuilder (CRM and email service), and maintaining membership records. We are very flexible with working hours, so please do get in touch if you have any questions.

- Database management
- Keeping financial and membership records up to date
- Keeping the website up to date (events, blogs etc.)
- General office assistance
- Events – supporting organisation of events, the Annual Compass Gathering, conferences
Person specification
Essential
- Excellent organisation
- An eye for detail
- Proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Office experience
- Experience managing databases
- Some experience using CRM systems
- Tech-savvy
- Willingness to learn new skills and processes
- Happy to work on your own and as part of a small but busy team
- Understanding and support for Compass and its good society goals
Nice to have
- Knowledge of using NationBuilder (online training available)
- Experience working in a membership organisation
- Knowledge of social media for organisations
