Education: a model for public service reform

Charles Seaford

A Compass Publication

Fundementally this thinkpiece deals with the need to reform education. The ideas presented in this report can also be used more widely though.  Policy makers can use the conclusions garnered from this report as a framework for other public service areas.

The thinkpiece argues that education standards should be raised through reassessing how we determine standards, reducing and ultimately removing the market from schooling, strengthening teacher ethics and reducing student/teacher inequalities through government intervention. To achieve this government should increase democratic accountability, ensure that the right people enter public service, provide more support and ensure effecieint and equal funding.
