Royal Mail privatisation plans are dead!

Wednesday, July 01 2009

We are delighted that the government has announced that its plans to privatise the Royal Mail are all but dead. While the government suggests their plans to sell a 30% stake in the Royal Mail have been kicked into the long grass for economic reasons there is no question that the political pressure mounted by Compass in coalition with the CWU, other organisations and most importantly with your support dealt the deathblow.

This would not have happened without your support for which, as always, we are incredibly grateful. However, we cannot rest on our laurels the Royal Mail and the Post Office may be safe for now - but to guarantee their safety in the future we need a modernised Royal Mail - one modernised by consent.

Compass will continue to campaign for a modernised Royal Mail - this is just the first step.
