Hanging together or hanging separately: Can the Left work together?

You’re warmly invited to this event co-hosted by Social Liberal Forum and Compass to discuss one of the biggest challenges to the left of British politics – whether the left can work together?

David Howarth (SLF Council) discusses with Green MP Caroline Lucas, Labour MP Lisa Nandy and Liberal Democrat Chris Bowers their new book The Alternative: Towards a New Progressive Politics. Copies will be available for sale at the meeting. Chair: Gordon Lishman (SLF Council).

Based on two premises – that working together with like-minded people produces better outcomes, and the UK may have reached the point where only some form of ‘progressive alliance’ will ever deliver a left-of-centre government – it is a collection of essays compiled jointly by a leading Labour MP (Lisa Nandy), a Liberal Democrat (Chris Bowers), and a Green (Caroline Lucas). It covers policies and values that could unite the progressives, and looks at the possible mechanics for cooperation.
