Cornwall Labour discuss: Proportional Representation

Truro City Hall, Boscawen Street, Truro, TR1 2NE

It’s time to fix our broken electoral system.

Constituency Labour Parties across the country have passed motions calling on Labour to back Proportional Representation for Westminster elections, 76% of Labour voters said they would support such a move and MPs from across the party have called for a review of Labour policy. So what’s all the fuss about?

At this event we will discuss the case for Proportional Representation and how Cornish CLPs and Labour members can lead Labour’s fight for a better democracy.

Hosted by Make Votes Matter and the Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform, this workshop will:

  • Cover the Labour arguments for proportional representation including frequently asked questions and mythbusting.
  • Discuss the campaign for electoral reform within the Labour Party, including how to pass CLP motions for PR.
  • Draft, debate and agree a resolution for attendees to take back to their branches and CLPs.

The event will be facilitated by Owen Winter, a Labour Party member from North Cornwall and co-founder of Make Votes Matter, and Joe Sousek, a Labour member from Bristol West and LCER Executive member.

This event is primarily intended for Labour party members, but supporters of PR are welcome to join!
