Birmingham – Electoral Reform Special Event

Electoral Reform Special Event – Tuesday 17 November 2015 – 7pm-9pm Birmingham

  • First Past The Post allowed the Tories a majority government supported by only 24% of the electorate
  • Since 1918 there’s been 450 women MPs – that’s fewer than the number of male MPs there are today
  • The House of Lords is an oversized, undemocratic, unrepresentative and archaic institution urgently in need of reform

These points are from the fantastic campaigners for electoral reform we’ve got lined up for 17 November, thanks to Unlock Democracy Birmingham:

● Frances Scott, founder of the 50:50 Parliament Campaign for a better gender balance in Parliament
● Emily Randall, Senior Campaigner at Unlock Democracy
● Klina Jordan – Voting Reform Team, and
● Josiah Mortimer, Communications Officer at the Electoral Reform Society

Each guest will talk about a different aspect of electoral reform – PR, local electoral reform, gender balance and the House of Lords. As usual, we’ll be doing politics differently with plenty of opportunity for interaction, discussion and planning ways forward.

Guests will also be asked to consider our Core Belief on Democracy (see below), suggest how it might be improved plus 2 or 3 key priorities for action. It promises to be another excellent Politics of Network event!

Booking is required at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/electoral-reform-a-west-midlands-politics-of-networks-special-event-tickets-19050646998.

To cover costs this is a pay what you can afford event. If you are on a low income free tickets are available but if you are able to contribute financially the suggested donation is £5 but less – or more – all really helps.
